Neil Mitchell is a passionate and knowledgeable advocate, advisor and investor in early and emerging stage founder led businesses. His business journey includes 30 plus years of experience in the Canadian Property & Casualty Insurance industry. It was during these years in numerous client-facing and executive leadership roles that Neil developed a deep appreciation and interest in insurance, risk management, entrepreneurs (the ultimate underdogs) and Canada’s small to mid-sized business sector.
Following his time as an insurance industry executive, Neil joined the ranks of other entrepreneurs to invest his own “skin in the game” in an early stage venture called Player’s Health. Neil recognized a significant opportunity in Player’s Health beyond it’s software injury and abuse management applications. He helped his business partner pivot Player’s Health from a software application into a niche focused insurance and risk management services organization. He did this by using his many years of insurance and risk management knowledge, experience and his extensive network of business relationships and contacts to secure critical investment capital and business partnerships to enable the sustainable development of this venture.
As co-founder, he spent a considerable amount of time and resources networking, raising angel and institutional venture capital, establishing brand name business partnerships, attracting talent, negotiating and securing insurance and reinsurance capacity, creating partner distribution relationships, business strategies and producing fee-generating client relationships. Although no longer involved in the operations of Player’s Health he remains an active promoter, investor and shareholder in the organization. His past experience and success at Players Health has led to new engagements for Neil in his capacity as an advisor, investor, and/or originator of angel and corporate venture capital for early-stage and emerging stage insurance and risk technology-based businesses.
Beyond his business interests, Neil is a two-time Iron Man Finisher who enjoys the great outdoors and its many related activities and has ridden his bike across Canada to support numerous causes. Neil values his personal relationships and professional network. He is grateful for his Family, friends, colleagues and business partners who make him want to continually improve in his personal and professional journeys. Life is indeed a path with many twists, turns, ups and downs and Neil is thankful to the many good people he has met and the support he has received along life’s long and winding road.
